Primordial

24 September - 30 November 2021

What does it mean to be primal? What is the primitive and our perception of it? Which thoughts, emotions, reactions and experiences speak to our basic primitive instincts, and what role do they have in civilisation?

These are the questions and challenges 11 artists confront in “Primordial”. Curation creates an immersive space where one feels removed and displaced from the throbbing mayhem of the external city. In that space viewers can connect with works of art that speak to our most base and primal instincts, emotions and perceptions. All this works together to create a space in which the audience can engage with the works of art on a plane that is akin to the exhibition prompt.

Each artist has brought their own unique perspective to the issue from Monsieur Zohore’s engagement with issues of hunger and gluttony, Sandy’s Williams IV’s manifestations of learned fear to Julius Margulies’s reflection of the most human moments of his soulful life.

Primordial features the artwork of Julius Margulies (aka Snuffy), Asher Liftin, Auguste Garufi, Dean Dempsey, Toni Ross, Rachel Wolf, Sandy Williams, Eli Hill, Monsieur Zohore, Lerone Wilson, Tony Tafuro and Alexander Gibson.
