Join us for a conversation with photographer and writer Caleb Stein and acclaimed author A.M. Homes as they explore the origins and evolution of Stein’s thirteen-year project, Down by the Hudson. Beginning with a single swimming hole in Poughkeepsie, the series grew through years of returning, observing, photographing, and becoming part of a community. Together, Stein and Homes will discuss how a place can become a repository for memory, friendship, ritual, and personal history, and how an accumulation of images can ultimately become a larger story. The conversation will consider the relationship between photography and writing, the ways memory shapes our understanding of place, and what happens when a fleeting moment, revisited over time, becomes a body of work.
