Palo Gallery is honored to announce its participation in Art Cologne 2025, where it will present a two-person booth featuring the works of Tancredi di Carcaci and Leda Tsoutreli. This presentation brings together two international artists whose individual practices, while distinct in their methodologies and material explorations, converge through a shared engagement with history, the nature of their chosen mediums, and the power of image-making.

Both artists embody research based practices, drawing extensively from historical and cultural references. Di Carcaci's work often echoes the grandeur of Medieval art and classical antiquity, while Tsoutreli’s may invoke narratives from the Iliad or explore the philosophical underpinnings of ancient myth. When viewed together, their individual practices coalesce into a dynamic and flowing visual conversation. Di Carcaci’s intense focus on themes of idolatry, relics, and the repurposing of historical fragments (spoglia) finds a counterpart in Tsoutreli’s dive into the compositional effects drawn from opulent compositions of Baroque and Rococo painting.

This rigor is paired with an obsessive attention to their respective materials. Tancredi debates the varied effects of patina or the physical characteristics of stone. Leda focuses deeply on colour theory in regard to her choice of oil pigments, with a particular focus on creating depth through colour. This shared focus on both intellectual and material execution culminates in a powerful effect on the viewer.

The presentation at Art Cologne 2025 will feature three sculptures by di Carcaci and four paintings by Tsoutreli. This pairing is designed to bridge what might initially appear as an aesthetic gap between their practices. Instead, the presentation highlights the fundamental elements of art-making that unify beyond the aesthetic. The dialogue between their works will show shared artistic concerns in terms of process, reference and research.
