Art Cologne Mallorca 2026: Leda Tsoutreli

9 - 12 April 2026
Overview

Palo Gallery (New York, NY) Palo Gallery is excited to announce its participation in the inaugural edition of Art Cologne Mallorca fair where we will be presenting a solo project by Greek painter Leda Tsoutreli. This showcase of fifteen paintings continues to explore the abstraction of familiar forms and symbols that Tsoutreli gathers through her own study of life and art history.

This latest presentation demonstrates an evolution from her recent 2025 solo show, The Interstice, incorporating new techniques and materials. Fourteen of the paintings on view are miniatures that stand in direct contrast to the large and sprawling abstractions from her solo exhibition. Nonetheless, these scaled down paintings carry just as much baroque energy and exhaustive exploration. Each painting titled, The Big Little, brings our sense of scale into question. The miniature paintings unfold universes upon themselves and encourage the viewer to evaluate the weight of a brushstroke that might otherwise be lost in a larger composition.

The compositions are signature to Tsoutreli though her palette has evolved alongside the choice in materials. Each small painting in the presentation is painted on linen rather than the canvases of 2025. This change in material has reshaped the artist's approach to the picture plane, often requiring multiple brushstrokes in the same location, and a shift in palette that is more subtle and subdued.

The final painting builds upon Tsoutreli’s monochromatic blue studies from her debut solo show. Think of Something from Afar uses only Tsoutreli’s signature blue. Inspired by the notebooks in which she draws and the ubiquitous blue of ball point pens, the painting strips everything away and invites the viewer to only consider the gesture. The painting offers a masterclass in how to build composition, perspective and energy just through varying paint density and the movement of the paint brush.

Together, the combined presentation offers a compelling insight into the development of this dynamic young painter, highlighting her practice that continues to evolve and push forward. and how she is constantly pushing her practice.
